Of the over 300 lakes in the McCall area, Payette Lake is both the largest and best loved. Carved by glaciers to a size of 5,330 acres, the lake is a playground for swimming, boating, water skiing, canoeing and sailing, including the Payette Cup Regatta. The nearly 1000-acre peninsula that extends into the lake is Ponderosa State Park with facilities for camping, picnicking and miles of hiking trails. In winter, the park offers 14 miles of groomed Nordic skiing, including 1.5 miles that are lighted for night skiing.
